Forget Spotify: Beats Music is way better

We tried Beats Music, and decided to compare it with Spotify. This is what we think.

CONS

Geographic restrictions: Beats Music is not available outside the US. You can get an account by using a VPN connection and providing a US telephone, but this may seem like a lot of trouble to go through for some users. Spotify is available in 58 countries.

Limited music library: Beats Music has 20 million tracks, compared to Spotify´s 30 million library.

PROS

Music recommendations: Beats Music has a very interesting feature, called “The Sentence”, where you select the words and Beats plays a set of tracks based on your mood. It also has a range of curated playlists.

Trial: Beats Music offers a commitment free 14 day trial – no credit card needed. Here Spotify loses straight away: you get a free month, but you need to provide a credit or debit card.

Number of devices: A $9.99 monthly subscription entitles you to unlimited and ad-free streaming on 3 devices simultaneously. With Spotify, one subscription gives you one device – that means that if you start playing music on two devices at the same time, music will stop in one of them.

Apple TV support: This may seem dumb, but having an Apple TV app makes a huge difference. Beats has its dedicated app on the Apple TV´s home screen, where you can access to your artists, playlists and tracks. On the other hand, Spotify lets you stream music from your device with the press of a button, but somehow, that doesn´t feel the same.

If Beats Music breaks the US barrier, and we think it might this summer, it will be a huge hit. So Spotify, you better watch out. What do you think? Let us know in the comment section below.
