We love trying new stuff. Even though we’re not in the United States, we managed to try HBO Now, the new subscription app by, you guessed, HBO.
HBO Now offers you a new way of enjoying the network´s premium content on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. That means you won´t be tied to your TV to enjoy great series and films. Before we continue, you need a US iTunes account to try HBO Now, here how to create one without a credit or debit card.
HBO Now offers you a free 30 day trial. After that, you will have to pay $15 every month. After you download and install the 24MB free app on your mobile device, HBO will ask you if you want to start your free trial.
Create a HBO Now free account (in case you are outside the US, look for a zip code online) and accept the trial´s terms and conditions. Then, you can cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings, and avoid being charged.
HBO Now has a home screen with a list of popular videos; a search tool to browse through the app; and a left side menu with different sections, including series, movies and documentaries.
As you know, HBO is the home of the widely popular TV series Game of Thrones. You´ll have access to the series’ 4 seasons; movies like Neighbors, The Lego Movie, and The Internship; and documentaries like Sinatra, The Jinx, and Beyoncé.
If you are outside the US, you´ll need a VPN connection to hide your location. We recommend using TunnelBear, with a $2.99 monthly subscription and a wide selection of countries, in case you want to tunnel to the UK, Switzerland, Italy, etc., beside the US.
HBO Now´s video quality depends on your internet connection, but we noticed the app streams content quite fast. Subtitles are available and you can fast-forward or rewind with the 10x buttons located on the left and right side of the “pause” screen.
We´re definitely looking forward to enjoying that free 30 day trial. What about you? Have you tried the app? Let us know in the comment section below.
